Why study business administration in Düsseldorf?

Obtaining a degree in business administration

The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at HHU offers study programmes in business administration, economics and, in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, business chemistry. The relatively small faculty currently has an annual intake of 260 new students for its bachelor’s and master’s study programmes. This enables opportunities for intensive personal support for students as well as the use of active learning and teaching methods. The study programmes offered primarily aim to train students as generalist in economics.

Specialisation is currently possible in the fields of marketing, management, human resources and organisation, financial services, financial economics, financial markets and financial institutions. Further opportunities for specialisation exist by combining corporate auditing and controlling or business taxation and tax law. Regardless of their specialisation, students learn to independently apply sound specialist expertise and knowledge of scientific methods to solve concrete economic problems in professional practice.

Do not hesitate to contact the faculty’s academic advising service in case of questions.

Düsseldorf as a place of opportunities

The faculty takes advantage of the metropolis of Düsseldorf as a hub for industry, trade and services to establish close relations with countless businesses. Meaning that students can regularly be offered a large number of internships.

In order to qualify prospective economists for the growing globalisation of our economy, strong emphasis is placed on international aspects during all courses. Students moreover have the opportunity to take optional business language courses in English, French and Spanish. After successfully completing a language course, students are able to obtain the Fremdsprache im Beruf (FIB) language certificate developed by the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce that is recognised by businesses and industry alike.

Study options

The study programmes leading to a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and the consecutive, more research-oriented Master of Science (MSc) continue the successful tradition of the Diplom in business administration of ensuring a generalist education that still allows students to set an individual focus.

The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at HHU has offered a bachelor’s study programme since the winter semester 06/07 and the consecutive Master’s programme has been running since the winter semester 09/10.

The faculty has also reached countless cooperation agreements with universities abroad. Diverse exchange programmes mean interested students are currently able to spend a semester abroad in France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden or the USA.
