Admission Procedure M. Sc. Economics
As part of the admission procedure the applicants are being ranked. The places to be allocated in the first semester are awarded to applicants based on their ranking determined by their overall grade.
The overall grade is calculated from the weighted average of
- the overall grade of the Bachelor's examination or the average grade achieved at the time of application (weighting 2/3) and
- the result of a compulsory subject-specific aptitude test (weighting 1/3).
When calculating the grade values, all but the first two decimal places are dropped without rounding.
Following subject-specific aptitude tests are recognized:
Determination of the overall grade
The result of the subject-specific aptitude test (percentile rank) is transformed into a grade. The following table shows the resulting conversion:
Percentage rank | Grade value |
| 100 | 1,00 |
| 90 | 1,30 |
| 80 | 1,60 |
| 70 | 1,90 |
| 60 | 2,21 |
| 50 | 2,51 |
| 40 | 2,81 |
| 30 | 3,12 |
| 20 | 3,42 |
| 10 | 3,72 |
| 1 | 4,00 |
| 0 | 5,00 |
*Linear interpolation between the limits
The overall grade is calculated from the final grade or the average grade achieved at the time and the grade value resulting from the transformed result of the subject-specific aptitude test. In the overall grade, all decimal places except the first two are dropped without rounding.
The following table shows an example of the calculation of various grading scenarios:
| Final grade bechelor's examination | Grade value aptitude test | Overall Grade* |
| 1,3 | 1,9 (Percentile rank 70) | 1,5 |
| 1,9 | 2,81 (Percentile rank 40) | 2,20 |
| 2,0 | 2,12 (Percentile rank 63) | 2,04 |
| 2,3 | 3,66 (Percentile rank 12) | 2,75 |
| 2,5 | 3,00 (Percentile rank 34) | 2,66 |
*Exemplary calculation based on fictitious values
In the event of equal ranking, the order of admission is decided by lottery. All details on the admission procedure can be found in the admission regulations.
